It is time again for all of you to participate in the honored parade through the Town of Cary’s Fire Stations. We are hosting the third annual Cary Fire House Marathon to honor our fallen brother Jon Schondelmayer and benefit children within the autistic spectrum. For those of you who think marathons are crazy, but half marathons and 10k races are for reasonable folk, you are in luck! We have your race as well, but all of you beware! These races honor the tradition of Schondelmayer, who never did the minimum. Each of these races features an extra mile just not because we have to, but because we can.
Monies raised this year go to take care of our community’s autistic kids in some amazing ways. We have partnered with several organizations to create some life-changing opportunities. Project Lifesaver is a proven program for finding lost kids with radio devices within minutes instead of hours. Miracle League of the Triangle is an international organization that provides the baseball league experience for special abilities kids. Finally, we are creating a camp experience to share the firefighter experience with kids. All of these initiatives aim to offer kids a place to learn, grow, and live a safer life.
This race was designed to bring us together in several ways- remembering our fallen, taking care of our community, taking care of ourselves. Please come help us remember Jon Schondelmayer by helping run this race or by actually running this race! Sign up to help by visiting signupgenius or come take the challenge and sign up to run the extra mile at runsignup.com. I’ll see you there.
